Using the bus

First of all, find the bus you need. Our web site contains timetables for all our services or you can call Traveline on 0871 200 2233 or click on their website here to plan your journey.

Step 1: Look for your bus…

As the bus drives up to your stop, look for the route number and desitnation on the front of the bus. If it matches the number you need, hail the driver by putting your arm out. Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop and the doors are opened for you to step on board.

Step 2: Buying your ticket...

Tell the driver where you would like to go and what ticket you would like. If you don’t know or are unsure, ask the driver and they will be able to advise you of the best options of fare available. If you have a multi journey pass or you are using a concession or other type of pass, please have this ready to show the driver when you get on the bus.

Our drivers will happily give change if they have it available. They only have a small float of change for security reasons, so issuing your driver the correct change will help them out and also help keep your bus in good time.

Step 3: Storage…

If you are carrying a buggy or shopping trolley, you will plenty of storage space to stow them for the duration of your journey.

Wheelchairs

There is room for one wheelchair user on each bus fitted with a retractable ramp making access easier. Most wheelchairs, including motorised types, will fit onto buses but motorised scooters (those with handlebars) can`t be carried onto buses.

Once on board, position yourself in the wheelchair space with your back against the backrest and your brake on. To leave the bus, press the button with the wheelchair symbol on it, next to the wheelchair space, shortly before your stop. Please ask the driver if you require assistance to negotiate the ramp.

Buggies

Low-floor buses are designed to allow buggies to remain unfolded in the wheelchair space, since this is the oly place in which they can travel safely. If somene in a wheelchair wishes to board, and the wheelchair space is occupied by standing passengers or buggies, standing passengers will be asked to make room lease make sure that buggies are safely positioned within the designated area. Unfolded buggies cannot travel in the gangway.

Wheelchair users have priority over everyone else for use of the wheelchair space. If someone in a wheelchair wishes to board, and the wheelchair space is occupied by standing passengers or buggies, standing passengers will be asked by the driver to make room if possible, buggy owners will be asked to fold them and put them in the luggage space or keep them by their side.

If you have a buggy, you should be able to board any low-floor bus unless (in the driver`s opinion) it is so crowded that there is no room for you to travel safely. You will only be refused admittance when it is absolutely necessary. No one already travelling will be asked to get off the bus.

Buggies that are too wide to be wheeled into the bus must be folded.

Assistance dogs

There is no limit on the number of assistance dogs the bus driver can allow on the bus, as long as there is space. Veolia Transport welcomes all assistance dogs, including guide dogs, hearing dogs, fetch and carry dogs, mental health companion dogs, and dogs that can sense when their owner is about to have an epileptic fit. All we ask is that your dog does not block the gangway.

Once safely seated, sit back and enjoy the ride.

Stop 4: Getting off the bus…

When you want to get off, press the bell once. For your safety we recommend that you remain seated until the bus has arrived at the stop. If you are unsure of where to get off, ask the driver when you buy your ticket, to alert you when your stop is approaching. Most buses return on the bus stop opposite the one you alight from but sometimes your return bus will leave from a different bus stop. Please ask the driver if you are unsure where the bus leaves for your journey home or check the timetable to see where your bus leaves.
